Setting up
If the customer has bought a VPS with a Windows license, we need to do a few extra steps:
- Log in to the physical node the customer has bought a VPS on.
- The user's Xen account might not exist, so type something like useradd --home /var/lib/dtc-xen/ttyssh_home/xenXX -m -s /usr/bin/dtc-xen_userconsole -g xenusers xenXX where XX is the VPS number.
- Type ln -s /usr/share/dtc-xen-hvm/Windows_*.iso /var/lib/dtc-xen/ttyssh_home/xenXX/ where XX is the VPS number.
Performing Windows Install for Customer
Each user is entitled to ask us to install Windows for them. What we do in that case is to copy across a pre-created Windows disk image to the user's partition and then ask the user to resize their disk if necessary.
What you need to do is:
- Ensure that the user has performed the steps in the DTC Configuration section of the Installation in DTC page. Check this by seeing the user's DTC login.
- Log in to the physical node the customer has bought a VPS on.
- Type bunzip2 -c /usr/share/dtc-xen-hvm/Windows_Server_2008_Standard_GigaTux_30GB.img.bz2 | dd of=/dev/lvm1/xenXX bs=1M where XX is the VPS number. There are images also for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. These are named in an obvious manner inside /usr/share/dtc-xen-hvm/
- When this is complete, send the pre-defined response Technical -> Windows VPS Installed to the ticket that the user raised.
