Getting an allocation

Get Marc to set up an allocation. Each VPS is allocated a /64, and more can be allocated on demand.

Setting the address

Setting up the base IPv6 addresses isn't too hard to do in each VPS.

Debian

/etc/network/interfaces

iface eth0 inet6 static
   address 2a03:9da0:0004:0008::2
   netmask 64

CentOS

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

IPV6INIT=yes
IPV6ADDR=2a03:9da0:0004:0067::2

Default gateways

In theory, each dom0 should be running radvd, which provides an advertisement to all VPSs detailing the default gateway to use. This is the link local address to the dom0. To find out the default gateway that should be used, run ifconfig on the dom0 and note down the inet6 addr with Scope:Link.

Sometimes this fails though. I'm not sure why, but perhaps there are conflicting advertisements sent? You can set this manually within each VPS by adding appropriate configuration directives by doing something similar to below (with the node00001 default gateway being used)

Debian

/etc/network/interfaces underneath the iface eth0 inet6 static line

   gateway fe80::225:90ff:fe1b:e47a

CentOS

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

IPV6_DEFAULTGW=fe80::225:90ff:fe1b:e47a
IPV6_DEFAULTDEV=eth0
