Windows VPS Packages Now Available
June 25th, 2012London, 25th June 2012. GigaTux is proud to announce the immediate availability of Windows VPS packages to complement its existing Virtual Private Server lineup.
Since May 2012, GigaTux has been testing Windows Server 2008 on its VPS platform and is proud to announce its immediate availability to the public. By becoming a Microsoft Partner, GigaTux can now offer licenses for Windows Server 2008 which runs in HVM (Hardware Virtual Machine) mode against GigaTux's Xen virtualisation foundations. GigaTux will also offer Windows Server 2012 once it is publicly released.
Detailed instructions are provided to users detailing how to install a Windows VPS, with the the initial VPS state involving booting from a Windows Server 2008 setup CD image. Specifically, instructions are provided on how to utilise the GPL PV drivers - paravirtualisation drivers which vastly improve hard disk and network I/O by providing a virtual device in the domU to interface more directly with the host drivers. This allows for a huge performance increase as opposed to an emulated HVM device and also allows GigaTux to keep prices low by utilising resources more efficiently.
The availability of Windows does not shift the company's direction; GigaTux will always remain committed to Linux as its preferred platform and will continue offering updates to all major distributions. GigaTux is happy to offer Windows as an additional service to users that require it.
