Double VPS disk until end of August 2010
July 8th, 2010We are offering all new users double disk space for free for life for orders placed before the end of August 2010 using code BIGDISK. This offer is for any of our VPSs, from Uno L at £7.99/month to Enterprise L.
The primary reasoning for this is because our Legion server is not accepting any additional RAM as originally planned, so it has a little bit of surplus hard disk space. Our new server, Cassandra, is undergoing heavy testing and will be ready to accept new orders soon.
Website Relaunch and VPS extras
April 26th, 2010GigaTux is proud to announce a relaunch of its new website, along with various extras that can now be provided with our Linux VPS services.
Our exciting new website attracts our visitors' attention, providing the information they need in an easy to use, but visually appealing format. GigaTux, and its users, consider the Linux hosting services provided by GigaTux as standing out from the crowd with a major focus on the customer experience, and this is reflected in our website redesign.
GigaTux now offers all users the option to have automatic, recurring payments for services using both PayPal and Google Checkout, both of which accept major credit cards.
Our VPS services have been significantly enhanced and we are now proud to offer the following new services:
- cPanel or Direct Admin control panels within the user's VPS.
- Daily, weekly or monthly automated backups.
- Extra storage from 5GB to 25GB.
All existing users are welcome to purchase any of these options by getting in touch with us.

Technical paper on Turnkey Linux
February 7th, 2010GigaTux has written a technical paper detailing how we have worked with the Turnkey Linux team to enable this to work with the DTC control panel, enabling automatic installations of these appliances. Essentially, this means you can set up a VPS running MySQL, Django or a Torrent server (to name a few) within a few mintes.
See the article on the technical site.
Turnkey Linux comprises a set of free, Ubuntu-based software appliances that are primarily available for server-type usage scenarios, such as setting up database, web, forum, wiki and photo gallery servers. Each appliance is preconfigured to work out of the box, with ease of use being the primary goal behind the Turnkey Linux project.
This is extremely useful in itself, but if you wanted to experiment with these appliances, potentially to evaluate or otherwise test them, it would be great if you could perform installations with the absolute minimum of effort.
New server and new prices
January 13th, 2010GigaTux is proud to announce that its new server, a replacement for our first server, has been built and is now in action with five live VPS customers. This has been in testing since the end of November 2009 and is proving to be an incredibly reliable server with amazing performance (e.g. hard drive speeds well in excess of 200MB/sec!)
The specifications of this server are as follows:
- 1 x Intel Xeon E5520 (similar to a Core i7 920) - a second CPU will be added at a later date.
- 12GB DDR3 ECC RAM - upgradable to 48GB
- 4 x 1.5TB hard drives in RAID 10
- Space for 2 x 2.5" hard drives which may be SSDs in the future
We are running Debian Lenny with an extremely reliable OpenSUSE kernel that supports Xen dom0.
Now that the new server is in place and performing as expected, GigaTux has updated all prices on its VPS packages offering huge discounts. Please check out our VPS page for more information.
